Business intelligence training and Cert from Microsoft

Hello there
I was wondering if there are any exams/certs that MS might consider put
on the market to have people prove themselves for BI.
are there other cert vendors that have that ? I found only certain
graduate classes....
simo
There was an MCP exam for OLAP on SQL Server 7, but that is now retired, and
there is no SQL Server 2000 version. Considering the emphasis Microsoft has
put on BI in recent years, I would be very surprised if there wouldn't be a
BI exam with the set of exams for SQL Server 2005. Possibly, there might
even be a separate MCDBA with BI specialization, similar to the MCSE with
security or messaging specialization. The timescales for releasing these
exams is 6 months after the product is released, which will probably mean
the first half of next year.

Business Intelligence Studio Missing

This post is for advice to anybody who cannot install BIDS.
Originally I installed SQL Express (with advanced services) onto a
virtual machine with Visual Studio 2005 Professional present. I then
attempted to install the reporting services toolkit so I would have
access to BIDS.
Each time I tried to install the toolkit It told me that the
components I have requested cannot be installed because they are
already installed. This is a flaw in the reporting services toolkit.
It searches for the visual studio executable, once fount it assumes
that BIDS is already present and it aborts the installation.
To resolve this issue remove Visual Studio. Install the reporting
services toolkit. At this point BIDS is available. Then install
Visual Studio. Finally the BIDS project types are available for use
under Visual Studio.On Jan 10, 11:57 am, brian...@.gmail.com wrote:

Just out of curiosity, did you install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
w/Advanced Services SP2 or an older version?

Business Intelligence Studio disappeared

Hi I had the Business Intelligence Studio for SQL Server 2005 installed and
then I went and installed VS Team System. My Business Intelligence Studio
seems to have disappeared and when I fire up Visual Studio I get errors that
it can't load various packages e.g. Report Designer, which I think are
related to Business Intelligence Studio. I have tried reinstalling SQL
server tools but it thinks everything is installed. Does anyone have any
ideas, Chris. It's actually the same program. When you open and create a new project, you
will see that BI is still there along with all the other VS options in VB,
C#, etc

Business intelligence studio - Integration services project problem

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to create an Integration services project from Business intelligence studio but i can't go further then this:
Could not load file or assembly "Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.Wizard" or one of its dependencies.

I have SQL Server 2005 Enterprise edition and Integration services service is started. I tried stopping the service and restarting it but it doesn't affect anything.

Can any of the clever guys of IT please help me.

Thank you

Gemma

hi,

have you tried to repair your installation of SQL client tools?

Hi there,

Sorry for the late reply but i tried it and it doesn't work. I also tried uninstalling components and then tried to install them again, didn't work.

Any other clever ideas as I have to finish this thing soon.

Thank you

Gemma

Check if you are administrator of your machine, or if you have all the permissions.

Try to change the user that are running the SQL services.

regards!

Hi Pedro

I have tried both and it doesn't work. Any other things which i can check before i ask my manger to send me on SSIS course.

Thank you

Try another machine..

And install it with Administrator

Business Intelligence Report Parameter Prompt Multi

I have my 2 datasets and my parameter set up to display building to select from. My issue is I get multiple values in the Select Value Prompt. It will pull the correct data I just want to clean up the Select Value Prompt.

Example:

Building 1

Building 1

Building 1

Building 2

Building 2

Dataset 1:

Select *

From Table

Dataset 2:

SELECT *

From Table

WHERE (Table.Building = @.Building)

ORDER BY Client.ctg

I'm assuming that you're using Dataset1 to populate the parameter. If so, try using the keyword DISTINCT in your SQL query for Dataset1.

SELECT DISTINCT
BuildingNameField
FROM Table (NoLock)
ORDER BY BuildingNameField

|||I can't use the distinct because it will cut down my data and not give me an accurate query. Unless the is a way to do it that I am not aware of. What is the (nolock)?|||What had to do is make a 3rd dataset in the report, w/ just the select distinct statement in it and then, change the available values dataset to the one that is just the select distinct.|||

The "nolock" (also written as "with nolock") insures that the table isn't locked while running the query. I always use this as a general practice when I'm running a query that really doesn't need to lock the table.

About 99.9% of the time, I always create a seperate dataset for parameters. This way, if you need to make changes to the dataset, you don't have to worry about screwing up data for something else.

Micheal

business intelligence projects visual studio 2008

Ok, I installed VS2008 and open my solution built with 2005 which contains a
business intelligence project for reporting services and I get a nice error
message that says this version does not support this project type
(.rptproj). Real nice.
Does anyone know how I can get this working or if VS2008 will even support
this at all?
Or will I have to work on part of my solution in VS2008 and use the SQL
Server Business Intelligence Development Studio for the other part? that
would be a bit of a pain.
Thanks.Assuming everything works as before then what will happen is that when you
install SQL Server 2008 BI tools they will integrate with VS 2008. Note that
you have have RS 2000 report designer (integrated with VS 2003), RS 2005
report designer integrated with VS 2005 and RS 2008 Report Designer to be
integrated with VS 2008.
If you are planning on using the VS winform or webform reportviewer control
then I would do a quick test to see if the 2008 version will work with RS
2005 server. It might not. VS 2005 controls required RS 2005 server.

i must create a new report for Reporting Services. In Visual Studio Net 2003 (new project) i don't find the folder "business intelligence projects".

Business Intelligence Project?

I installed the VS 2005 Beta and didn't see the business intelligence project type. How do I get that project type in my list? Do I need SQL 2005 installed on the same machine? In VS2003, you just needed to install the SQL Server client tools to access the Business Intelligence project type. I'm not sure if there's an option in the current SQL Server 2005 install to just install the client piececs.

I'd suggest just installing the whole thing, it should make your development easier (that way, even if you turn off SQL Server locally, you'll still have the Management Studio to manage/connect to your remote databases ... very handy unless you like setting up remote desktops or walking between servers).

Here's also a list of installation notes on integrating SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio which you may find helpful:

Business Intelligence project type not found in visual studio 2005

Hi,

I have installed sql server 2005 and visual studio 2005 on windows server 2003. When I select business intelligence studio from sql server, visual studio editor opens up,but i cannot find business intelligence projects template in visual studio. Please suggest some solution or workaround.

Thanks,

Y Gupta

Verify that you have installed the Workstation components under SQL Setup, on that machine. BI Projects should be the top node in the Project Types list on the left hand side of the New Project dialog. There is no workaround, just a valid install.

Yup. You need to install the client tools on your development box.
Matt|||The server does not need the client software and the client software does
not need the server software. They can both be installed but they do not
need to be. Wherever you install the client software you need VS installed.

Business Intelligence option disappeared from Visual Studio

I am in the process of evaluating Reporting Services for my company. I
succesfully installed Reporting Services and began developing a simple
report. After closing Visual Studio to attend to another matter, I later
re-opened Visual Studio and was unable to edit my existing report project.
The error I received was "The selected file is not a valid Visual Studio
Solution file". Further, when I tried to create a new project, Business
Intelligence is no longer listed in the project types dialog. I have tried
uninstalling and reinstalling both Visual Studio and Reporting Services and I
still have the same problem. Can anyone suggest a solution? Thank you.Similar problem for me. I installed RS client side and also have no
visibility to BI in VS .NET 2003. A couple of differences though:
1) I -never- had visibility
2) I can open the sample solution file (with the AdventureWorks reports),
and can even deploy it the server. But trying to add new BI items (or create
a BI project to begin with) are impossible.
Can anyone help us?

the upgrade did not remove the start menu option for the previous version. I
was starting "Microsoft Visual Studio .NET" and not "Microsoft Visual Studio
.NET 2003". When I open the right one, everything is there.

Projects" in the New Project dialog. However, since you say you can open
existing projects, you can create a new one by coping the template file.
%ProgramFiles%\\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Report
Designer\ReportProjects\ReportProject.rptproj and opening that.

Business Intelligence on ROLAP

Hi all,

I am inquiring whether I can have some business Intelligence on Relational DBMS in SQL 2005 as projecting the number of patients within a health care basing on the available data.

Please help me out.

Regards,

Ronnie

Hi:

I think what are really looking at is using Data Mining in SQL 2005 - to do predictive analysis. There are several algorithms that would allow you to do this including Microsoft Time Series.

Thanks.

Can I enable data mining on SQL SERVER 2005 database.

Please you can post me some information on this?

Hi Ronald:

The Data Mining functionality comes as part of the SQL 2005 bundle (specifically in Analysis Services) and you need to create Mining Models using the BI Dev Studio.

You can start with Books Online. There are books in the market as well on the subject.

It would be good to get a clearer overall picture of what you are trying - size, scope, location etc - and then I could help you out further.

Thanks.

I have one mining structure using Microsoft Decision Tress that I have created basing on the tutorial of Adventure Works DW.

How can be able to incorporate this mining structure with ASP.NET 2.0 so as my project can be intelligenct or so that my GUI that users use there are to project or get meaningful information through the data in the database basing on my mining model.

Thanx

Please help me out. What does Moving to data Mining Forum mean? I thought that this is were I am.

Business Intelligence Install

Hi,
How to install "Business Intelligence" to design SRS Reports?
I thought that this component would be in Visual Studio 2005 or 2003
but i can't find it.
I only try to get the "Report design Project" in Visual Studio.
Thank you
EmmanuelBIDs (SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Tool) is not in Visual
Studio install. It is in the SQL Server client install (tools section)..
So go through the SQL Client and Tools install and you will be good to go!

Easy with SQL 2005, and it works...
But what about SQL 2000 ?
I don't find the necessary tools on the install CD...Do i need to go in
the "control panel" , "Add, Delete programs" or something like this ?
Thank you.
