Cached Report and Windows Authentication

I want to use cached reports with Reporting Services 2005. But when I edit the execution properties of a report, an error message answser that I can't use cache because it has a connexion to Analysis Services with Windows Authentication.

I understand why I can't do that, but I still want to do so, because the reports take too much time to load. How can I do that ?

Thanks.

You can configure the datasource in the report to run using stored credentials. In report manager, go the report and then click on the DataSource tab on the left side, you can store the credentials using that UI.|||

Thanks. I tried this and it works, but I don't see better performance...

I thought that I would not see "Generating Report, please wait" any more...

Query the ExecutionLog table in the report server catalog database to see if we are submitting the queries. You can tell by looking at the "rowcount" column. You will also see how much time we are spending in processing and rendering respectively. Processing is the time that it takes for us to create the snapshot, and should be minimized by rendering from the execution cache.

|||

TimeDataRetrieval 645 0
TimeProcessing 4855 347
TimeRendering 23518 1090
Source 1 2
ByteCount 10249 10249
RowCount 183 21

Thank you, it seems that the cache is used. The first column is created the first time when the cache is generated, and the second column is created when I open the report a second time. I still got a RowCount > 0, I don't know why... Isn't there a way to tell the ReportServer the generate a .html file as cache, I think it would be much faster.

But then again, it works, so I thank you for your help.

|||We will automatically cache whatever we think is safe to cache. HTML caching can be problematic because there is some session specific information which is embedded in the HTML, so we cannot simply serve up the same HTML to multiple users.

Cache a temporary copy of the report. How to set for multiple repo

Hi,
Is there a utility to set cache a temporary copy of the report for multiple
reports, instead of going to execution properties of each report? I have
close to a 100 reports to which I need to set this to expire after 2 hours
(120 min.).
Thanks,
Sam.You could use the RS.exe utility.
Create a script using the object model, and pass it in to the utility...
The object model is documented in Reporting Services Web Service Library In
Books on line.
There is also 2 samples which should be in the scripts subdirectory of your
RS install..

cache

Sometimes we expect a report to run from cache and it doesnt. Scenario is we
subscribe to the report to run at 3 am and set execution to cache report and
expire at midnight. So this way when a user runs during the day, the report
is already cached
However I noticed in the executionlog table that when the report runs from a
subscription it runs as MHTML and when the user runs from browser it runs
from HTML 4.0 format and I think these differences in formats throw off the
cache execution status.
What is the difference in formats.
I also notice that sometimes a subscription executes once but the user gets
two emails. They try to export to excel and get a message that they do not
have sufficient permissions. My thought was that Installation of Microsoft
Publisher put Office in Read Only mode. We have had that issue with Office
Web Component in the past.
Assistance with these issues is appreciated
ThanksPlease answer my post

parameters can be. The cache key is composed of the report and its
parameters. Are you running the report with the same parameters in the two
cases?

BURST Support

Hi,
Does anyone knows if Reporting Services support BURST execution of a Report.
That is ONE Report execution will generate SEVERAL output files (Excel for
exemple)
based on User data perimeter or rights.
Many thanks.No it does not.

Firstly when a Report is executed all the data is collected from the data
source(s) along with the definition of the report and combined to produce an
executed representation of the report which is stored in "session" called
Intermediary Format, until you manually flush the session or until it times
out.
You can include in the URL request for a report from the Report Server the
SessionID as well as the format, or if using the SOAP interface then you can
also specify the SessionID.
What this means is that you can get several different rendering from exactly
one execution of the Report against its data sources - which means that your
Excel, PDF, HTML versions of a report can all be consistent with each
other - something which is essential in systems where the data is pretty
volatile.
We discuss SessionID in our book "The Hitchhiker's Guide to SQL Server 2000
Reporting Services"
BTW: If you were meaning to ask that by clicking on an object in the Report
Manager - can you also do a BURST - then the answer to that is also yes -
you just need to Customise the Report Manager - and we also discuss that in
the book.
